Spider Rock
Spider Rock is a tall spire of Navajo Sandstone that rises from the floor of Canyon de Chelly near Chinle, Arizona. This telephoto image was taken on a very cold morning in early January just as the sun illuminated the rock. Shadowed snow from the previous week was still present in the background and created a blue texture to contrast with the warm stone.
My good friend Nancy Bo Flood kindly composed a poem for this image.

Spider Woman

Not here for me to see
like your chimney rock
Where you sit and
Weave.

Spin your story threads
Teach me
to perceive webs of what is
Real.
