The Right Side of Light
This series of pictures was from an afternoon and evening spent at Coalmine Canyon with friends in September 2013. The last of the season's monsoons were breaking out sporadically. Our party was a few miles from this location, facing the wrong direction to effectively compose the dramatic skies with the canyon as foreground. Unable to convince my friends that we should move over to get a better perspective, I split with them and decided to enjoy the show on my own. This was the first image soon after arriving. Mid-afternoon, but already the rainbows were breaking out. It was a prelude of the light that followed the rest of the day and into night. Fortunately, my friends followed me to this location about an hour later and were able to participate in the event as well.
