On a hike to photograph balanced rocks, mud patterns along the way were too tempting to pass by. Recent rains had created numerous puddles in the wash. Finer particles floated to the top, and when the puddles dried out, the crusts of fine particles cracked and curled into jigsaw compositions. A brief shower on the dried mud left small ring marks where raindrops impacted and disturbed the fine surface particles.
