The "blue hour" is the time after sunset when the glowing sky in the west adds some directional warm light to the scene while the blue light reflected from the open sky above provides contrasting coolness. These badlands, having low color saturation on their own, pickup and reflect these warm and cool colors, which can be further enhanced during image processing.
