Bisti Sculpture
The Bisti Badlands in western New Mexico offer a high concentration of odd-shaped stones and fabulously-carved land forms. Erosion is everywhere and its remnants fill the place with fantasy and mystery. Many of the rocks, like those shown here, are a bland putty color, similar to the light-colored computers of a decade ago. At sunrise and sunset, however, a transformation occurs. The off-white rocks reflect the warm color of the sun on the horizon, and the sculptures glow with a warm radiance that translates nicely on film.
