Big Bang
Lichen is a favorite plant of mine to photograph. It comes in a variety of colors, creates some interesting patterns, and, most importantly, remains perfectly still when the wind blows. It's also frequently present in environments containing sandstone. True, it's only half plant. Most of what we see is actually the fungus portion of the symbiotic relationship. The algae are beneath the surface, protected by the fungus, quietly creating food via photosynthesis. This group of lichen was found in Zion National Park.
